Unbelievable!!! Really!!! Why would some one do this!!! Obviously they don't care about the people that live near by, the animals, or the environment.

One can only imagine what the inside of their home looks like.

Why is that section of Mont Clare dumping-central?? The DEP shuts down UPT's site, and now this??!!

40-50 years ago, dumps like this were typical. Phoenixville had a similar "dump" on South Second Avenue where the compost yard now sits. Fortunately most sites have been cleaned up. Is this dump active? Is it legal to deposit junk on your own property? Are they actually dumping chemicals?

Well you know.... when you charge people an arm and a leg for municipal trash service, limit the amount of waste they can throw out and charge for large item pickups, what do you expect? I'm surprised we don't see more of this. Lets raise the trash fee to cover the cleanup!

Sell that backhoe and use the money to clean up the mess. There is a home in the background of the picture, you can't tell me they did know this was going on.

This is why we have a Township Supervisor. I suggest everyone concerned about this contact Lisa Mossie our Supervisor. I contacted her in the past on a similar situation
and she made sure it was cleaned up. Whoever is responsible for this, Mr Hinkle or his
associates should be held accountable and made to pay the cost for the clean up, and fines. This is disgusting that those responsible have no concern for the environment. They should be made to attend special classes regarding the damage they are doing. Upper Providence Township is responsible for making sure this is corrected and those responsible made to pay. Thank you to Tom Sunnergren for breaking this story. The DEP and Upper Providence Township are aware of this and are taking steps to address this issue.

So, basically, the guy has a junk pile in his back yard.

I know the owner personally. He had purchased the home several years ago and has done nothing but clean up the property. The previous owner was an old man who used that as a dumping area. The neighbors have even gone as far as stopping by the house to thank the new owner for cleaning up the property. The dump lays on state property. I am outraged on how the new homeowner has done nothing but tried to clean up his property and now your trying to slander his name. You can't always believe everything you read. The writer of this article apparently did not get his facts straight. If the writer has any type of conscience, he will retract this article and actually get his facts straight and then re-write the article apologizing to the home owner.

I see Patch or Tom Sunnergren is taking the Pottstown Mercury's approach to commenting. If they don't like what the comment is because it calls them out on their poor job of reporting, they will just casually take it down, even if it is not in violation to the terms of service.

I stated that the owner has cleaned up his property, this is true. The dump is back in the woods which is not on or near his property. It is not visible from the owners property. The land was able to be changed over because it is NOT on his property. Secondly, the dump would not have weeds on it because of all the garbage piled on top of the soil.

Cheri: It appears that you and the 'owner' have intimate knowledge of this dump, its contents, and the property lines surrounding it. Why didn't either of you contact the township or DEP in order to have it cleaned up? Do you like having toxic materials in the woods on a hill which drains directly into the community water source? The old saying is 'you snooze you lose' and it certainly applies here because now the local press, township, and state environmental regulators are all involved when a proactive approach to the situation (by those who knew about the dump) would have done so much more.

I'm not taking sides here...but before we get all riled up with rhetoric, has it been confirmed that there are actual TOXIC substances on site? Empty antifreeze bottles don't count...you can find them in local recycling bins. While I agree it is a disgraceful mess, do we know for sure it is a potential Superfund site, or are people being inflamatory? Cheri-- I appreciate your support for the owner-- I too have worked on cleaning up areas, but some people always seem to find the negative in everything. And I sure don't see them grabbing a trash bag and trying to help out around town!

I would expect, and look forward to seeing what our Township Supervisor has to report on the status of this situation. Do we know who is responsible, what does DEP have to say, who is paying for the clean up,??? I also expect the Patch editor to follow up and give us an update.. Am I expecting too much ?? There is trash scattered throughout this entire wooded area. If you walk the trail through the first ravine and climb up over the hill on the right you will find discarded tv sets, bikes, tents, soda bottles, tires, etc. Perhaps the area around 330 Lovers Lane is more concentrated with junk, but it is by no means the only dump site in that area.

People who dump like this are inconsiderate moron's, I hope they all get caught and pay hefty fine's.....but that's unlikely as they are also sneak's who don't
care about anyone but themselves and have no respect for the environment.

Are we going to get a "follow-up" to this story or will it just get dropped as most stories do. New's one day, forgotten by day 3.......I often wonder why there is not a follow-up section on article's, I can name numerous article's that never get an "update" published. Every newspaper is guilty of this. Tell a story, get the people's interest, then file it away and forget it. The Journal Register Co. is especially guilty of this. It's one reason i stopped buying their newspaper's. And I stopped trying to access their new's on-line since they loaded their websites with so many pop-up add's etc. that it's just not worth the aggrivation and the slowing down of your computer.. I do like the Patch, but please report a complete story and then do follow up's. Thank's
