There were numerous reports Friday night of a meteor visible entering the Earth's atmosphere over the U.S. East Coast. No impacts or injuries were reported.

From Boston to the Carolinas on Friday night, there were hundreds of unconfirmed reports on Twitter and other social media outlets of a meteor-like object visibly entering the Earth's atmosphere shortly before 8 p.m.

Montgomery County resident E. Steven Collins said he saw the meteor moving quickly across the sky, and told the Washington Post's "Capital Weather Gang" that the meteor was "Bright. Orange. Blue. White. Silver. Totally streaking by the sky light!"

A meteor estimated to be about 50 feet wide and weighing more than 10,000 tons exploded over central Russia last month, injuring hundreds with a shockwave that blew out windows and damaged structures across a wide area.

No injuries, or other material impacts were reported Friday night.

The American Meteor Society had logged hundreds of reports of the meteor across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states late Friday night.

Here are some comments from Patch readers who said they saw the object:

I was talking with my daughter-in-law Stephanie and she saw it. Thought somebody was shooting off fireworks or something...How cool that she saw it??!! ― Coleen Pontin, Royersford

I saw it!! It looked like a shooting star...long and bright!! Thought it was a firework going off! ― Anne Zadrejko, Phoenixville

My Girl Scouts and I saw it. We were on a night hike at River Bend Nature Center in Gladwyne. We all agreed that it was a shooting star. ― Karen Meade

I was driving home, south on 476, right above Quakertown and I saw this huge flash. At first I thought it was lightning. Then I looked out my driver side window and I saw what I thought was a firework. It was a long, green streek in the sky that kind of fizzled out. It was so neat! Glad to know I wasn't seeing things. ― Amy Petko-Trimble

My son and I saw it walking out of a building in paoli. It stopped us from walking it was so bright and flickering! Neither of us have seen a shooting star before so we just assumed but it looked like it was right there! ― Kim Clarke-Wynn

Did you see it the Friday night object? Better yet, did you photograph it? Tell us what you saw (or upload your photo) here!

I was walking my dog, just out of the corner of my eye, I saw what I thought was a firecracker....a blue streak, but no whistle and no pop...then it faded away. It was so strange....I teach 8th grade Science, and I have to admit I thought I had seen a meteor...

I saw one about 11 years ago over Manayunk from 76. While on my home from dinner in center city. I must have been one of the few people who saw it because there was nothing on the news about it the next morning.

If it was "slow moving" compared to what one normally sees as a shooting star,
then there is a good chance you actually saw was a satellite falling out of orbit.

My mother and I saw it while we were out for a walk, and it was definitely more slow-moving then the shooting stars I have seen. We used to go to the beach for the Perseid meteor shower and those shooting stars were also much, much smaller than what we saw today.

My son and I just got home in Harleysville as we were getting out of the car he looked at the sky and said "dad look!" We saw what looked like a large, slow moving, shooting star that was blue and orange in color.

Wake up people. It was a drone attack perpetrated by our government to kill Americans on our own soil. They want you to think it was a meteor and you're all buying into it. My neighbor's cousin's little sister's friend saw it take off from the air base in Horsham. You heard it here first.

Blind dog crawl back into your underground bomb shelter and keep the anti american comments to yourself. People like you are the first in line for food stamps or free services as you bash the hand that feeds you. If you dont like living here in america then go try living in the middle east or africa and then lets see what you have to say about this great nation that we take for granted.

I saw it also. It was a like a fireball," bright yellow", with a trailing tail with debris breaking off, then it exploded. It was 7:56 PM and it seemed as if it was going south from over Chester County Prison then exploded in back of Pocopson Nusing Home. No, I never have seen or reported anything like this before, it was spectacular!! Donna M.

Rich, my comment was merely mocking the people who were posting just as ridiculous comments in the article about drones being piloted out of the air base in Horsham: http://horsham.patch.com/articles/new-mission-coming-to-horsham-air-guard-station Sorry you didn't get it. The comment you made to me is basically the same exact thing I said to the people in there. Do everyone a favor and lose the Internet Tough Guy outfit, you don't wear it well and it might help you look a little less like a jackass.

"...other social media outlets of a meteor-like object visibly re-entering the Earth's atmosphere ..."

So you are presuming this object originated on Earth? Because for it to be "re-entering" the Earth's atmosphere, it would have had to have already been in the Earth's atmosphere. That rules out a meteor...

@Rick. I could tell Blind Dog's comment was sarcastic/funny. He was mocking the conspiracy theorists who never trust the government and think everyone is out to get them. There are quite a few of those people who post here. Was it the funniest thing I ever read, no, but it was amusing. I didn't LOL, but I chuckled. We need more humor on these pages - and everywhere. People are so angry, judgemental, and ready to attack. Humor and laughing is what makes life worth living - at least to me.
