Former Councilman Kyle Guie Will Run for Old Seat

Guie resigned his Middle Ward seat in June, but announced on Friday that he's running to take it back.

Kyle Guie resigned his post on the Phoenixville Borough Council on June 12, citing a new job and a long commute that had become unbearable. But now that he's taken a position in King of Prussia, he says he wants his Middle Ward seat back.

In an announcement Guie forwarded to Patch on Feb. 22, the self-described Democrat said he hoped to make "our great community even better by encouraging community engagement, promoting economic development, and advocating for sustainability."

When Guie resigned in the summer, Karl Bucus was appointed to fill his position on council. When he won the post, Bucus indicated that he was going to finish out Guie's term, but wouldn't run for election at its conclusion.

Below is Guie's full announcement:

Today I would like to announce my candidacy for Phoenixville Borough Council. I had the great pleasure to serve on Council before and I am looking forward to another opportunity. As a Borough Council member I want to help make our great community even better by encouraging community engagement, promoting economic development, and advocating for sustainability.

There are a number of exciting projects underway in Phoenixville, which will take a commonsense non-partisan Council to be successful. To be honest, I am a Democrat but I am not concerned with politics. We are all residents of the same community and passionate about our town. All of us can work together regardless of party affiliation. It would be an honor to serve on Council and work with all of you.

As some of you may know, I unfortunately had to resign from Council the last time I served because I moved to Lancaster for employment related reasons. Last Fall I was happy to receive a job in King of Prussia which allowed me to move back to Phoenixville. I chose to move back to Phoenixville because it is a great town and a great place to raise a family. I now work for a transportation organization that promotes and advocates for a more viable and sustainable transportation network in the Philadelphia region. I am also an adjunct instructor in the urban planning program at Temple University. My education in urban planning from the Temple University School of Environmental Design and my work experience in local government, planning, public policy, and sustainability will bring a fresh perspective to Borough Council. One of the projects that I am most proud of during my previous time on Council was helping to start the community garden in Reservoir Park. I had the pleasure of working with a local environmental group called Seventh Wonder to help create a garden on underutilized Borough land that will be a place for residents to grow food and will provide many educational opportunities.

Please vote for me in the primary election on May 21st, 2013. Can I count on your support?

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for my campaign, please contact me at kyleforcouncil@gmail.com

With great thanks,

Kyle Guie

According to local scuttlebutt, Richard Breuer and Jan Swarr are also planning to run for this seat. Anyone hear any other names?

Oh you mean the same Richard Breuer that has had scaffolding around his house for almost 2 years just to spite the borough and the local residents.

Thanks for this info! Now maybe people will be even more liable to vote for him, since he's grounded in reality, as opposed to say somebody like you, who is a delusional global warming denier.

I'm not sure that I believe answering a questionnaire and visiting a site makes one a "sympathizer"....

Realistically, the people for whom this is an "issue", aren't going to be voting for him anyway. So who cares really.

Dead Horse Beater:
You accuse me of things when you do not even know my views.

Nicole:
I agree with you to a point but his answers gave him away.

Dead Horse Beater:
The Democrats should care if they want a credible candidate. Personally, I don't care what party a councilman belongs to. I just want a competent Borough Council. I'm registered as a Republican and yet I support Mayor Scoda because he is not agenda driven but rather a good "governor" in the truest sense of the word.
