Editor's note: the following release was provided by the Phoenixville Area School District.

Alarm clocks around the Phoenixville area were going off earlier than usual on Monday, as the students in PASD headed back to school.  A rainy start didn’t dampen anyone’s excitement, as students greeted old friends, shared stories of their summer experiences, and met new teachers.

“We had a terrific start to the year,” said Dr. Alan Fegley, Superintendent of Schools.  “Our staff worked hard all summer to make sure today was a great opening day.  We sincerely appreciate their efforts in making everyone’s first day so successful.”

For Kindergarten students, everything was a new experience.   As they marched from the bus into the building, they looked like old pros!  A few tears from anxious children (and parents!) along the way, but by the end of the day, there were only smiles.

The same scene was evident at the Districts’ three elementary schools.  Barkley Elementary Principal, Keya Champagne-Lee, shared “There was much energy and enthusiasm in the air as we welcomed 390 students to Barkley Elementary School this morning.  The children were eager to meet their new teachers and connect with both old and new friends.  Their warm smiles and joyous laughter reaffirmed their excitement for a new school year!”

On the new secondary campus, parents and students adjusted well to the different traffic patterns.  At the new middle school, Dr. Frank Garritano rated the day as fantastic.  “The students were terrific.  They are obviously happy to be here, and in awe of this incredible new building.  They were all a little lost at some point during the day, but we worked together and it was a great first day.”

The year promises to be filled with many wonderful events and activities…come join us at 6:00 pm Thursday in Reeves Park for a pep rally to kick-off the football season!
