The following Phoenixville businesses were inspected by the Montgomery County Health Department in the month of August. The 2012 food establishment inspection results for all of Upper Providence Township are available here.

- Facility lacking current MCHD CFSM. Facility has two current ServSafe employees.
- Facility has 30 days to submit reciprocity application. Application left at time of inspection.
- Underneath soda and juice machine nozzles unclean.
- Ice build up around condenser line in walk in freezer.
- Heavy dust build up in vent above dish machine.
- Food debris build up in bain marie and cold bar.
- Wall surrounding ware washing area unclean, mold-like growth.
- Stained and damaged ceiling tiles in dry storage room.
- Floor unclean in dry storage room, heavy build up under shelves.

Target and Bob Evans aren't "Phoenixville Eateries". Technically neither is the Fitzwater Station as it also isn't in Phoenixville. Bad headline....

All three establishments are in the 19460 Zip Code which is listed as Phoenixville. If I had to guess, I would say this is why they are included in this 'article'. There proximity to Phoenixville would likely be the reason they are classified as Phoenixville Eateries.

Jim - I didn't check the address for Target, but Bob Evans is listed as 100 Cresson Boulevard Phoenixville, PA 19460. Target is listed as Oaks, odd since they are very close to each other. Both are close to Phoenixville so should be listed on the Phoenxville Patch site, Should the article be renamed? Maybe, like the Meatloaf song says, 2 outta 3 aint bad.

All three of these establishments are in Montgomery County. Phoenixville is in Chester County. It seems strange that they would all have Phoenixville addresses, but they do. However, they are not in Phoenixville or Chester County! And, they do not fall under Chester County rules and regulations. Too bad we have to take the heat for it!

Peter, the first line of the articles says "The following Phoenixville businesses were inspected by the Montgomery County Health Department in the month of August.". Phoenixville is right up against the border of Montgomery county. This site covers the Phoenixville area, so it stands to reason they would report on Montgomery County as well. There are articles about East Pikeland, Schuylkill township etc... that technically aren't Phoenixville, but should be covered by this site.

Tom,
Upper Providence is a stand alone township in Montgomery county; we are not a "section" of Phoenixville. Through a quirk of post office regulations, most people who live in Upper Providence have either a Phoenixville or Collegeville zip code; that is the case with these businesses, which are located in Oaks and Mont Clare/Port Providence sections of Upper Providence. sections Only people who get their mail delivered to a post office box in Oaks have an Oaks zip code.

It's a quirk of zip codes, not geography. There is no Phoenixville section of Upper Providence either. Originally, residents who were serviced by the Oaks post office had to pick up their mail from the post office because it did not offer delivery. When Phoenixville and Collegeville began offering rural postal routes for delivery, many residents signed up for them. When my husband and I signed up for a rural route back in 1996, we had the choice of using either a Phoenixville or Collegeville zip code; now I believe most Oaks residents who get home delivery use Phoenixville as their zip code.

I live in East Pikeland township which isn't part of the Phoenixville borough, but if they reported on an establishment in East Pikeland I wouldn't be hear quibbling about the title of the article.

MPorchik, East Pikeland is still Phoenixville Area School District so it makes perfect sense to include it as part of the Greater Phoenixville area. Upper Providence is part of the Spring-Ford School district and has no relationship to Phoenixville. Considering they have a different Spring Ford patch, it would make more sense to post this info there.
Not to make a big deal about this but it is what it is....Sometimes it's best to just admit a mistake and move on instead of arguing when you are dead wrong.

How am I dead wrong though. Oaks is closer to Phoenixville than it is to Spring City/Royersford, so why wouldn't it appear in the Phoenxville Patch? This site isn't owned or run by the Phoenxiville Area School District.

Jeanne, not for nothing but none of the violations are that bad....check your own kitchen and I'll bet you'll find many of the same things. That said, anyone who eats at Target deserves what they get.

They have a Limerick/Royersford/Spring City Patch which would have been a better place to list this but whatever.
I like the patch and think Tom Sunnergren does a decent job but it is very clear he isn't from Phoenixville nor does he know much about the town or area. You can also see it in the various "Best of Phoenixville" polls here. Businesses in town for many years are left off while places not even in Phoenixville are on the list.
Had to laugh at the "Phoenixville section of Upper Providence" comments as well. Phoenixville is completely different from and many miles away from Upper Providence.

In this case, it is not simply the lazy writing/editing we have come to expect, it is purely a lack of understanding as evidenced in his own comments. It is my belief that the muckraker's only desire is to be as sensationalist as possible, to get as many clicks and comments as possible (thus all the polls). He should learn some ethics.
For a business that relies on local advertising (to my understanding) to continually seek out ways to make said businesses look bad, just seems like a poor business move to me.
19460 is a Postal ZIP code only. Type "19460" into google, and look at the purple outline of the service area for the 19460 (Phoenixville) post office, it must be 5-6 different municipalities in 2 counties. Yes, these are eateries in the area of Phoenixville, well, one is...
I bet you if they had high passing scores, these would be in the Lower Providence Patch. But Tom wants to beat down Phoenixville as much as he can, so since they had violations, they're ours.
Peter and Jim (above) are right. This guy just doesn't know what he is talking about. Period.

I don't think it has anything to do with beating down Phoenixville (my guess is you have a business that go a bad review and are still bitter); he just doesn't know the area well enough. He needs to learn more about Phoenixville not from the internet but by coming into town once in a while.
That said, the Patch is still 100% better than the "Evening Phoenix" or even the "Mercury".

Richard, you're right. Patch is better than The Mercury or The Phoenix. Anything is better than The Phoenix. But it takes the editor to make a Patch site good. Tom has no motivation to do that. He really does not care about Phoenixville. He has been at this site for several months, since Lynn left in April, and he still has no clue about this area.

Lisa, when it comes to the Department of Health, Fire Services, several other areas there are sections known by the bordering boroughs. For instance there is an area known as the Royersford Section of Upper Prov., Trapped Section of Upper Providence, and Collegville sections of Upper Providence. It is used as indicators to get a better understanding of where in your spread out Township something is located for ease of locating.

Agreed, John, but the "Phoenixville" section of Upper Providence is more properly referred to as Oaks, Mont Clare or Port Providence. These towns are well established and should not lose their identity simply because of postal codes.

With the Fitz, it would make more sense to be in a Phoenixville patch since it is so close to Phoenixville. I am sure there is more Pville people going there than Limerick, Spring City, and/or Royersford. As someone stated before, it should be where or where not this should have been reported more than the fact of being educated that some places take more pride in cleanliness and care for their business just by seeing the comparison of numbers in violations.

If anything, Upper Providence should be wholly integrated into a single Patch...either Phoenixville or Limerick. Having the Oaks end of the township reading Phoenixville's Patch while the 19468 end of the township reads Limerick doesn't help when it comes to getting news out. I've been pining for this with the Patch editors since the Patch concept rolled out. To me, it doesnt matter which Patch it is but the township should be included as part of a Patch considering we have 21,000 people in our borders.

I love all the arguing about municipalities. SMH None of the three restaurants had bad violations...least of all, the Fitz. Not much reason to even have this posted in my opinion. If it was so necessary to post this, where are the health dept reports on all of the other local restaurants?

I've never seen a group of "concerned" adults type such childish arguments. I'm 21 years old and I was embarrassed reading some of the preceding. Instead of arguing, how about we post comments that are relevant to the article? If you disagree with something, get out from behind the computer and do something about it. Come on grown-ups!
