Nicotine Anonymous to Celebrate 25 Years in Phoenixville

If you're curious about this group, come out on Wednesday to check them out.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted on behalf of the Phoenixville Group of Nicotine Anonymous.

On Ash Wednesday (no pun intended) the Phoenixville Group of Nicotine Anonymous held its first meeting at the East Wing of Phoenixville Hospital.

Since that time, the group has also met at the Phoenixville Area YMCA, and now meets every Wednesday evening at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Circle, each Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A special anniversary celebration will be held Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Nicotine Anonymous is a 12-step recovery program based on the same Twelve Steps as Alcoholics Anonymous.  Members share their experience, strength and hope in order to help one another quit using nicotine in any form.  The group is recommended as follow-up support by the Phoenixville Hospital Smoking Cessation program.

Over the past two and a half decades many have found freedom from their nicotine addiction through regular attendance at meetings. There are no dues or fees for membership in Nicotine Anonymous. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop smoking or using nicotine in any form.

Stopping the use of nicotine is said by many to be the hardest thing they have ever done, as the odds of those becoming hooked on this most addictive drug of all are nine in 10. They are one in six for crack cocaine and one in 10 for alcohol, so newcomers are always congratulated on their courage for coming to meetings and are always welcome even if they are still smoking.

Anyone who might be interested in finding out about this fellowship is cordially invited to attend this meeting. Refreshments and a party-like atmosphere will prevail. Information on Nicotine Anonymous is also available at www.nicotine-anonymous.org.
