Oaks Cleanup Event Held Saturday

Groups descended upon the village Saturday morning.

It was a block party of sorts, but one with a very set purpose.

The Oaks Neighborhood Association planned a cleanup Saturday morning. Dozens attended, including a large group from Christ’s Church of the Valley.

The day kicked off with pancakes made by the folks a Global Packaging. Other Oaks businesses were involved, too. Rapid Recycling provided a Dumpster for the event, Snyder Family Chiropractic pitched in by providing gloves and other supplies, the Perky Café donated coupons and New Concepts Med Spa’s owner came out from Birdsbiro to provide services and pitch in with the cleanup.

In a well-coordinated effort, the cleanup organizers had the Oaks Fire Company on hand to provide help with traffic, and police personnel helped out with traffic control, too.

Following the pancake breakfast, groups headed out around the village. A family-friendly group, safe for kids to participate in, picked up litter around Brower Avenue and in the neighborhood right off of Egypt Road. A large crew toted brooms and pushed wheelbarrows down to the area around the post office, and other groups headed out to other parts of Oaks and Upper Providence Township.

Adam Williams, who helped organize the event, said he was happy with the turnout and the results. As he drove past the crew working at the post office, he glanced over to admire the finished product.

“That’s what I wanted,” he said, the back of his truck crammed with bags of trash. “Great job, guys.”
