Occupy Phoenixville Asks You to Occupy the Polls
The local group has been meeting for several weeks.
No, you won't see people camping out in the downtown district or settling into tents in Reeves Park anytime soon.
The local Occupy Phoenixville group has taken on the mission of spreading the message of the larger Occupy movement. Members have traveled down to the Occupy Philadelphia encampment, bringing food and other materials, and have worked to find ways to support the movement on a more local level.
Meeting since mid-October, the group works to bring the ideas of the Occupy movement to the borough.
"The group is committed to understanding our current economic and political structures and to finding ways to make our systems more equitable and just for all," according to a press release sent out by the group.
With the upcoming muncipal election, the group has approached candidates to seek opinions on issues and they've compiled information about voting in Phoenixville, which you can find on the Occupy Phoenixville website.
"As a first step in Phoenixville, Occupy Phoenixville encourages those concerned about our country and economy to Occupy the Polls on Nov. 8, Election Day," a press release states.
In the future, plans include hosting a film and discussion series centered on change and the issues affecting the area.
