Petrucci's Takes a Stand Against Secondhand Smoke
The ice cream parlor hung a sign on May 31 identifying itself as a smoke-free establishment.
Petrucci’s Ice Cream and Water Ice–with an assist from Phoenixville Hospital and Teens Against Tobacco Use, a student anti-smoking group from Phoenixville Area Middle School–hung a sign signifying its commitment to staying tobacco free at a May 31 ceremony.
“I really don’t think smokers are aware that they're doing something damaging to others. [The signs] will help remind people to not use tobacco around young children,” said John Colarusso who, along with his wife Mary, owns Petrucci’s.
The unlikely trio of Petrucci’s, the hospital, and the student group, banded together under the banner of Young Lungs AT Play (YLAP)–a program designed to create tobacco free environments where children and youth gather.
Phoenixville Hospital, a member of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Set Free Coalition, is funded by the PA Dept. of Health and is charged with supporting all municipalities, organizations and businesses who wish to go completely tobacco Free. YLAP signs are provided, at no costs, to those groups who adopt tobacco free policies.

I'm so happy they are doing this! We love walking down to Petrucci's and it's ruined when people are smoking near us. Even though it's outside it still affects those that are around. We're happy you did this for our children (and for us!)

I appreciate Petrucci's taking this stand. It would be nice if the borough banned smoking in some other public places like Reeve's park. I could not believe how many people were smoking around all of the children there.

I wish all places would do this. I love taking my kids to the outlets in Limerick, but hate the amount of smoke we inhale when we walk past the stores. Although outside, it is a pretty tight space. The surprising thing is that so many of the smokers are the employees! You would think they'd have a designated spot for the employees to smoke.

come on, it's outside........it's not going to give make anyone sick, it's just smelly and stinky............the kids at that store are more likely to get hit by a car pulling into the parking lot. John, why don't you make people park off site and walk over. Now that would create a safe environment. ( a non smoker myself)

Childhood obesity is a major problem, and could be helped if places like Petrucci's take a stand against selling empty-calories to kids.
