doesnt seem like much of an increase to me.... but the borough is small compared to other municipalities and at least the numbers are positive

I sure hope Phoenixville and the surrounding area get their traffic lights and controls in place by then. (:>)

It's good to see that growth is projected. I say however, that instead of accommodation for newcomers with new ugly housing developments, we improve the homes we have, emphasizing the Victorian feel of the town, and try to get people to live in those first!

Why would anyone want to move to p'ville? I have been living in a development here for 8 yrs and the schools are mediocre and the crime is not down so what's the point? We thiught by now things would have improved,,,our taxes have gone up 3k since we bought our home.
We can't even sell our home because neighbors are so desperate to leave they are giving their houses away! Whats the incentive to move to the borough? I pay the highest taxes and our school is not the best compared to the schools around us in montgomery county,,,people are leaving to go to the great valley school district or tredyferrin/Easton or radnor. What's the incentive? We love our home but ours kid starts school next yr,,,,do I send them to Barkley and "hope" for the best? Renaissance isnt't all that either,,,look up their stats on the pa dept of education website! I'm not a believer in charter schools. Anyone have any great info for us to stay here? W are seriously considering home schooling til we sell our home or a private school.

Maria or Concerned Female, whatever you are calling yourself today. Please note that we can look up your past comments made on the Patch. I found it amazing how your tuned changed from your last post about the Catholic schools.

Also rethink your idea about homeschooling. Unless your husband is going to do it, your children are not going to learn how to spell or use proper grammar.

Sure there's some problems, but show your Phantom Pride! I go to Phoenixville High School, and I think it's amazing. One of the reason your taxes are high is because we're building a new school, not because everything is necessarily better, though I think it is. The reason Phoenixville doesn't compare as well to other school, is because Phoenixville is an urban area. There ARE people of low income who go to our school, and not that low income children can't be smart, but they tend to come from parents who aren't as smart as the people who are living pretty in a huge housing development in West Vincent. Phoenixville is a great place for all the reasons people have said. Maybe things haven't improved as fast as you want, but you can't deny improvement.

@PVilleRes your heart is in the right place but don't assume a lower income person is not smart. You can't paint a broad stroke when describing people with lower income. I understand your point but its a generalization thats not only incorrect, its not very PC. Anyway, glad to see some people do have some pride in this town, its what is needed to make a town special

People move here because its close to their work and its less expensive than a lot of other areas. Look up prices in W Chester, Chester Springs, KOP, Malvern, etc and its pretty clear why......Crime is down from 8 years ago so Im not sure where your coming from? Please provide your statistics, I would be surprised to hear the contrary, but maybe youre right.

The schools are meeting their AYP so what makes you so scared your kids to school? Maybe they aren't award winning, and they are run by people I don't like/agree with but the school district isn't Chester or Camden so you shouldn't be fearful to send your kids to kindergarten. They're going to be ok

It seems you are really affected by something and if you can't get by it I really think you should move ASAP. Take a loss on your house, it will be worth your piece of mind..

Phoenixville is a very popular place to live. It is central to many Pharmaceutical Companies as well as Corporate Centers. It also has a community feeling about it. Those that live in Phoenixville have the ability to walk to the Library, Schools, Parks, Biking & Walking Trails, Charming Shops/Restaurants. It was voted one of the Top Ten Towns to live in. We have a 10 Walkability Rating. There is art, music & the Hospital is nearby.

I'm not sure where the crime information is coming from however I would feel safe walking anywhere in Phoenixville at anytime. In fact I have. Growing up in Norristown & with friends/relatives still there, I have a better perspective on what crime truly is.

As far as Taxes Montgomery County is higher than Chester County. Depending on the year the house was built, as the assessed value will be higher in NEW homes, taxes are actually reasonable here. As reasonable as taxes can be. Delaware County has very high taxes, followed by Berks County, Bucks County, Montgomery County then Chester County. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, however I have a pretty good insight on this subject.

As far as the schools I am a strong believer that if parents are involved children can do well. Parents need to be involved. My son graduated from Phoenixville High School, will graduate in May w/ a double major & 3.8 GPA. He is in a Private College & has been their starting 2nd Baseman since Freshman Yr.

I would also like to state that many of my clients right here in Phoenixville that are selling their homes are STAYING in Phoenixville. They love this town. They are either moving into a larger home or downsizing. People are not desperate to get out of this town and selling their home for much less than what they paid. Those that are selling for less are either in financial difficulty and/or they have to relocate due to a career move. I have not once heard one person state they WANT to leave Phoenixville.

Lastly I can tell you that no matter how good a school district is perceived to be there are troubles. And as a parent of 5 children who have attended Phoenixville School District from Kindergarten through to graduating High School I believe I would have the experience with the school to state they are not mediocre. The schools can only teach those that are willing to learn and they need the parent's participation. Does Phoenixville School District have issues? Of course, show me a school district that does not. Does Phoenixville have crime? Of course, again show me an area that does not.

I'm sorry you are not happy in this area and I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals. But I did feel the need to set the record straight about Phoenixville and all the Good it has to offer.

Thanks for that Jennifer. Our communities are what we make them. We sent out daughter to Barkley and we all loved it. We could have sent her anywhere. She is now a successful college grad with a significant management position. We chose Barkley because it is the real world where our children will begin experiencing the broad range of economic and social populas we all experience in real life. Once out in the world, not everyone is from the same background, wearing the same uniform or even behaving the same way. Barkley is a great school with great kids and involved parents, all offering real world experiences and education. Chip and Buffy will never understand because of their sheltered, vanilla education and upbringing. Phoenixville is a great family town and when compared to other places in this general geographic area, you can't do any better. Are our taxes too high....sure but they're too high everywhere. Delaware County is a great example. They're at least 30% higher and for what? Sounds like concerned female longs for the "main line" experience and hopefully, if that's what she wants, she'll soon get to what she desires.

Bud you are right. What a great way to get the point across. When children are sheltered they receive a great big kick when they have to get out on their own. They can't understand why they aren't getting what they want and why everyone is so "mean". It's called life and the earlier they learn to deal with differences including economic and social, the better they will adjust as adults. The real world can be pretty upsetting sometimes and if you don't know how to deal with it then life will be a disaster and they will not be functioning adults.

Phoenixville is a great place to raise a family. We come together as a community when someone is in need, everywhere I go I know someone, and we have great festivals that include everyone that lives here and beyond.

Well I'm not sure I necessarily I believe wholeheartedly into the psychological maturity of child that grows up in the Phoenixville school district, I will admit it's not a horrible place to live. Having built my house off 113 about 7.5 years ago, I believed that the town would have progressed significantly more than it has. Admittedly, I want to move, however I'm not at the point where I want to accept a loss or at best break even on my home, which is what may happen if we sell now and I have seen more negatives start to stack up. I'm sure the town is a much better place than it was 10 years ago, but please understand that is of no real significance when trying to attract new residents. I wish the town the best of luck, but I already have my exit plan in about 2 years.
