The Kiwanis Club of Phoenixville raised approximately $14,000 during its Sixth Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction.

The event was held Saturday evening at Kimberton Fire Company and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Firebird Children's Theatre. Despite several other events happening at the same time (and perhaps thanks to a bout of cabin fever going around) the dinner drew people hoping to chow down on good food and take a gander at the more than 300 items up for auction.

After spaghetti was served by the Key Clubs from Phoenixville and Spring-Ford, the auction portion of the evening featured 287 silent auction items and 26 live auction items.

According to Larry Gubanich of the Kiwanis Club, the most popular live auction items included a Skipjack boat ride for 20 people, which went for $400, a day in Washington with U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey for $330, a trip to Harrisburg with state Sen. Andy Dinniman that went for $250, a Phillies basket that included game tickets for $280 and a signed DeSean Jackson official game jersey that sold for $250.

Gubanich said a big draw is the number of items up for grabs as well as the low cost for the dinner ($12 in advance and $15 at the door).

"It makes it cheaper for everybody," Gubanich said.
