Phoenixville Police Make Drug Arrest in Reservoir Park

The alleged incident occurred on December 7.

A Phoenixville man faces drug charges after police say he was busted getting high in Reservoir Park earlier this month.

According to court documents, on December 7 at 7 p.m., a Phoenixville Police officer was on patrol when he passed a green Hyundai sitting in the park. As he approached the vehicle, the officer said it sped passed him at a high rate of speed.

After the officer activated his lights and pulled the car over in the area of Taylor Avenue and St. Mary Street, he witnessed the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, surreptitiously open his driver side door and wedge something underneath the seat.

When the driver, sitting in a vehicle the officer said smelled strongly of burned marijuana, was asked what he had pushed under the seat, he replied “just a little weed.”

The officer recovered a glass pipe, a grinder, and a green material subsequent lab testing confirmed to be marijuana.

The man was charged with three counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and additional counts of tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct. He has a preliminary hearing date scheduled for January 24.

I received a report that the accused is, though not a minor, still a high school student. I decided to pull his name from the story.

If my children hang around with this "suspected criminal" it is okay not to inform me? Maybe "he " will continue on until you DO name him? I would rather not wait until "he" shoots up a school, to read the name. He is not a minor. Please report without bias.

Gotta love an editor who likes to pick and choose who he puts on blast... Just like your health reports. You write articles praising some establishments and "forget:" their reports but throw others under the bus... What a joke.

Chris, how is deciding not to post the name of a high school kid caught smoking pot a "joke"? You sound bitter that your shop got a bad grade from the health department and the patch reported on it. You were handed the shop from your parents anyway so stop bitching and go to the Mercury site if you don't like the way the news is presented here.

You people are so annoying. Do you just read the patch to complain? Seriously, if you don't like the news you get from here go somewhere else.

Caren: No, we do not read the Patch or post on the Patch to complain. We, do not have our own newspaper anymore and therefore need to rely on this type of reporting. Incomplete and inaccurate reporting does not serve the readers of this link. While I cannot make the jump to having this person shooting up schools, I do have a need to ensure my family's protection. The failure to publish the name of this individual fails to protect the community.

Bob, how in the heck is a kid smoking a joint hurting the community or making your family less safe? Just because you were/are a nerd who never had a beer or a joint as a kid doesn't mean anyone who does is a menace to society and deserves to have his life ruined by judgmental clowns like you. Thank god you lose every election. I can only imagine what would happen in you were put in charge of the police force.

So tell me what give's a reporter the right to pick and choose who get's named and who doesn't ?? That indeed IS biased reporting. If i had a child in high school I would surely want to know who this adult offender is so i could warn my child about his poor choice's, so my child could beware. If this 18yr.old is getting high in a park where children play then parent's indeed do neeed to know his identity. You make poor choice's you pay, we all are aware of that fact of life. And Nonya, as to why ? only the offender know's that........and usually unfortunately even they don't know why.

Maybe it's time for the Chester County Drug Task Force to make a sweep of Phoenixville Boro. And the dope dealers in the bars and on bridge st.Before this turns into "COATSVILLE"...

Yes David, i agree. Town was "cleaner" a couple of year's ago, but they're back. An
undercover, plain clothes task force is needed on Bridge St, Prospect St. Among other "contact" spot's in town. I see a lot just driving thru town. Uniformed police presence has also gone down in town. The street hustler's and begger's are back along with the drug traffic. The eating establishment's patron's eat and leave town, there is not much to attract them to frequent the street. And the bar's do need to monitor their frequent flyer drinker's more closely. Thing's were looking up there for awhile, but with the winter weather here only the "street" people are out. I heard all the negative thing's being said in the past about Barry Cassidy, but I do feel thing's were better when he was involved, The town need's a good leader/ organizer and
planner to keep the good thing's going that attract people to frequent Bridge St.
And event's and entertainment and "happening's" need to be publicized more before they occur, I usually read about them on line or in the few new's sheet's
after they were held but not before. I was born and raised in Phoenixville, I like what i see with the "revitalization" but it need's constant care.

Careful, telling the truth here will attract the town cheerleaders who will attack you for not blinding supporting Bridge Street.

Good job on not posting the kids name. No need to mess with a young mans future just because he smokes pot.

To everyone who has complained about the name not being published: Being a suspect does not make a person guilty nor should it make someone open to public ridicule.
