Thanks for the reminder Ed. In this particular story, however, the name of the driver wasn't immediately available. Furthermore, in my judgement, in a case like this, providing the name of the driver doesn't meaningfully advance the story, so I didn't pursue it.

So, now I'm left wondering which one of my neighbors who is 61 years old is the perp.
A few on them around that age I know drink once in a while. Now the rumors start - "I think it's.....", " I heard it was....", "I know for a fact it was.....", etc.
Better to not publish the story at all,

This reminds me of people on Facebook who say, "Oh, I'm so depressed, I can't believe what just happened, and I'm going to get in so much trouble!" and when everyone asks why, they say they can't tell anyone. So, you get half the story. Nice. Thanks for leaving us hanging.

Yep! We were spoiled by the previous great Patch reporter, you all know who I mean.
She did such a complete and thorough job of reporting, now we're left hangin' with half stories. How can you possibly say "providing the name of the subject would not meaningfully advance the story.?? DUH, that IS the story !!!

Remember years ago when papers first started reporting DUI in print? The whole intention of them doing so was so the public could see just who these reckless people were, by name.
