Report: Harpoon Louie's Closed Over Alleged Dispute

Fox 29 is reporting that the restaurant closed up shop.

Rumors last year that Harpoon Louie's closed turned out to be false, but now, it seems, the restaurant has really shut its doors.

According to a report by Fox 29, the shuttered restaurant came as a surprise to Ginger Katzenmoyer, who was leasing the spot at 639 Schuylkill Road to a tenant. The news station reports:

A lawyer for the restaurant operator says his client informed Katzenmoyer of the shutdown by letter after she refused to continue to allow him to use the restaurant's liquor license.

He says his client had no choice.

Now after more than three decades, the place is for sale.

Phoenixville Patch reported on the restaurant's crab deck opening in July. At the time, Frank Satiro said he had officially taken over the restaurant's operations in mid-June.

Katzenmoyer told Fox 29 that the tenant took liquor and other things from the restaurant and has fallen behind on the rent. A reporter from the news station tried calling the tenant's pizza shop in Pottstown, but was unable to get in touch with him for comment.

I'm glad that I didn't buy their recent Groupon!

My step-daughter worked there as a waitress when they first opened & had trouble getting paid her wages by the operators. She went a month without a paycheck and when she complained to them, citing PA labor laws, they cut her hours. I think the operators were ill equipped financially to handle a business like this. Too bad..it's a great space. Hopefully it won't just become another vacant building, rotting away.

Prophetic, AnneMarie. Now almost a year later, "another vacant building rotting away."
