Thank You, Phoenixville
Tomorrow, April 6, marks my last day as local editor of Phoenixville Patch.
It’s with great sadness that I am announcing the end of my time with Patch.
I’ll be leaving for the dark side, as they call it in the news business, moving on to public relations at a small local firm. I’m thrilled to have this new opportunity and overwhelmingly grateful for my time at Phoenixville Patch.
When I started the site in mid-December 2010, I truly had no idea what I was getting into. The Phoenixville community welcomed me (and the site) and as I bounced around at many local events, I was a new face in the crowd. However, I was continuously amazed at how welcoming everyone was, and at how willing they were to embrace this brand new site in the community.
This past year and a half has been full of ups and downs, late nights and weekends whiled away at meetings and events, early mornings up before the crack of dawn writing articles and countless hours spent trying to respond to e-mails and questions. I was able to see the best, and at times, through crime reporting, the worst of Phoenixville, and I continue to be as in love with this town as I was in the beginning—even more so.
Phoenixville has a wealth of people out there doing great things. Instead of a tiny core group of folks doing good, the community has many, many people involved in a variety of different organizations and causes, each trying to make a difference in their own ways.
Whenever people within the Patch organization would give me kudos on how well the site was doing in Phoenixville, I’d always answer, “It’s not me. It’s Phoenixville.”
It’s true. I was truly lucky to cover such an up-and-coming town, where people are not afraid to question and comment, to debate issues with neighbors and overwhelmingly, to want the best for the community as a whole.
The site will continue—and I believe, will continue to thrive—after I leave. I trust that I am leaving you in good, capable hands and I’m confident that you’ll show the future local editor of Phoenixville Patch the same welcome that I had in the Phoenixville area.
Thank you to my co-workers, who helped me through the ups and downs and kept me laughing even when it seemed impossible, and to my dad who faithfully reads (and shares) Patch.
Thank you most of all to the Phoenixville community, which I’m sure will continue to be an example for other local communities. I appreciate all of the support you’ve given me.
After I leave, I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing for the last few years. I’ll be in Phoenixville, out at events (looking forward to the Goat Race), slurping ice pops at the farmers’ market and enjoying the shops and restaurants downtown. I hope to see you around, and I hope that you’ll keep an eye on the Patch, which you as a community helped build.
For all Patch-related questions and comments going forward, please e-mail Phoenixville@Patch.com or my regional editor, Tom Murray at tom.murray@patch.com.
