Local Elections Matter

Will you be voting next week? I often wonder at the number of people who are saying "the system" is broken, or "both parties are equally bad", but then don't bother to vote.

Local elections are truly important. Our local taxes, both school and borough, are impacted by who we elect. Our Police and Firefighters, Teachers and Municipal Services, all depend on who we elect to make balanced decisions. And the taxpayers rely on us to make conservative and fiscally responsible decisions.

This election, we have candidates for Mayor, Council and School Board.

Do you know who is running? How did you decide who to vote for? What are the issues that matter most to you?

I decided to run for School Board last year. The news that we will be building two new schools made me want to be a part of the decision-making process. How we build these schools will impact our community for a long time. I'd like to see us build with sustainable principles. We spend approximately $700,000 per year on energy, I think if we build smarter we can save taxpayers millions of dollars over the life of a building.

I also want to see us put our focus, and our funds, in the classroom, where they do the most good.
