St Basil the Great Students Qualify for the World Odyssey of the Mind Competition

Students from St. Basil the Great Catholic School have qualified for the Odyssey of the Mind World finals after successfully winning at the regional and state level.   Team members Danielle Acuna, Lexie DiIanni, Victoria Gauntner, Ryan Maguire, Brianna Miscioscia, Nolan Morris, and Riley Nowakowski along with parent leaders Caroline Maguire and Laura Miscioscia have been working together since mid-October to prepare for this final four-day competition which will be held the last week of May at Iowa State University.

Oydessy of the Mind is a competition that emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and problem solving. Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve problems and are not only encouraged to think “outside the box” but are rewarded for such thinking. The team from St. Basil the Great is participating in the Mechanical/Vehicle category in which they have had to design, build, and drive a vehicle that will travel a course where a student driver attempts to complete tasks in order to pass a driver’s test.

To help defray the cost of lodging, transportation, and shipping of their vehicle and other props the team is holding a fundraiser at Petrucci’s, 472 Nutt Rd, Phoenixville, on Tuesday, April 29th from 6:00-9:00 pm.  If you mention St. Basil’s, Petruccis will donate 20% of the profit to the team. Also if you would like to make a donation directly to the team, please make your check out to St Basil the Great School Odyssey Team and send it to St. Basil the Great Catholic School, PO Box 858, Kimberton PA 19442
