Are You Ready for Girl Scout Cookie Season?

GSA Cookie Sales kick-off the 2013 selling season on Jan. 17.

You can almost taste the cool zing of the Thin Mint. Can you smell the creamy peanut butter from the Tagalong? Are you ready to crunch into a Samoa?

The good news is your wait is almost over. Those in the Montgomery County area will soon be able to get themselves a box of the famed Girl Scout cookies. Sales begin on Thursday, Jan. 17.

According to GirlScouts.org, 11 types of cookie treats will be available this year for sale through local girl scout troops, including a newly added Mango Creme variety.

Mango Cremes, this year's new cookie, is described as a vanilla and coconut crunchy cookie with a mango filling on the GSA website. The cookie contains the concentrate of many natural fruits.

According to the GSA Pressroom's news release, the girl scouts have sold cookies for over 100 years. Cookies for the 2013 sales season will be $4 per box.

Girl Scouts still sell cookies door-to-door in my neighborhood in Limerick Township, but I know that mall booths and other sales methods have gained popularity as safety concerns have grown about children soliciting homes. I'd be interested to hear more about what the "norm" is in other municipalities around Montgomery County.

There will be many booths all around Upper Dublin on Friday night and all weekend. Look for troops 7092 and 71600 at Gio's Pizza, Maple Glen Pizza, Saladworks, Mac's Beverages, Acme, Jimmy John's, Primos, and Rite Aid (Ambler), Booths are around only on the weekends (Fri-Sun) but I'm sure someone you know knows a GS who would be happy to get you a box or three during the week. Thanks for your support!

I can't wait to hit up these hot spots for this year's cookies!! Thin Mints and Tagalongs, here I come. In Lower Providence Township, we have door-to-door too, but I might have to get a jump on my shopping. ;)
