Blobfest Audience Runs Screaming out of Phoenixville's Colonial Theater

Patchclips Video: Hundreds stand in a soaking rain to witness the terror.

They came, they saw, they ran screaming out of the theater and hundreds of people stood in a soaking summer rain to cheer the annual opening of Blobfest at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville.
Blobfest opened in rainy conditions worthy of a campy horror movie of the late 50's.  The opening night's main attraction was a sold-out stage show which not did not include a showing of the film that was partly shot  in Phoenixville.
Audience members who came screaming out of the theater said they were told that there was a problem and that they need to evacuate the theater.  That's when the sold-out audience went screaming out the front doors to the loud cheers of Blobfest fans who stood in the pouring rain.
How do you top that?  With a weekend full of Blob-related events:

Saturday

  • There will be a street fair on bridge street outside the colonial. It's free and runs from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • The street fair features a Fire Extinguisher Parade, Costume Contest, Merchant Facade Contest, music, food, vendors and classic cars ’til 5PM
  • Inside the Colonial, they're running a double feature of The Blob and Them. Show times are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. You can read more about the films on the Blobfest Website.

Sunday

  • There will be the weekly tour of the historic Colonial Theater at 12:30 p.m.

A.V. Club Visits Phoenixville: Back in 2011 The Onion’s A.V. Club recently visited The Colonial Theatre to take a peek at where some of The Blob was filmed. The ensuing article included this quote: “The Philadelphia Museum Of Art has its statue, The Colonial Theatre has its bucket o’ goo.”

You can read more details about the movies, the sold-out Friday night stage show and the history of Blobfest on the official Blobfest Website.
