City of Chicago Sues Two Chesco Drug Companies

The lawsuit claims that drug companies were aware that opioids are safe only for short-term use, but hid that fact.

The city of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against two Chester County drug companies, alleging that their marketing tactics contributed to the nation's addiction problems.

The lawsuit alleges that Malvern-based Endo Health Solutions and Frazer-based Cephalon hid the dangers of opioid painkillers, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

"Their deceptive messages tainted virtually every source doctors could rely on for information and prevented them from making informed treatment decisions," the lawsuit says.

The suit was file Monday in Illinois, the Inquirer said. Also named in the lawsuit are Purdue Pharma, Actavis, and Johnson & Johnson's Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the Inquirer said.

The suit alleges that the drug companies were aware that opioids are safe only for short-term use, but hid that fact.
