12 Holiday Events You Don't Want To Miss

Sixth event on the list is a holiday classic happening right here in Berwyn Thursday-Saturday.

There is something going on for everyone this holiday season in the Philadelphia Patch region.

Holiday Triple Threat

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
  • Where: Church and Market Street, West Chester 
  • Why Go: Choose your race. Race as a three-member team through the downtown West Chester loop or race as an individual runner and attempt to trump the relays to win it all. A portion of this race benefits the Great Guys Group, a non-profit organization dedicated to Bringing Hope Home by financially supporting families battling cancer in the Philadelphia area.
  • Cost: $20 - $90 *depends on when and how you register.

The Nutcracker

  • When: Thursday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 and 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: The Chester County Ballet Company presents The Nutcracker.  For reserved tickets, please call the box office at 610-431-2333.
  • Cost: $7 - $50

The Nutcracker

  • When: Dec. 7 – Dec. 16
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Enjoy an all-ages cast of over 80 dancers and actors create and bring to life The Nutcracker. As the narrative unfolds, comical high jinx, holiday fun, and lavishly genteel romance transpire against a backdrop of antique decors and picturesquely animated action. All of the elements combine to make Brandywine Ballet’s The Nutcracker a favorite among local audiences.

Friends of the Roxborough Library 2nd Annual Holiday Fundraising Event

  • When: Thursday, Dec. 13 from 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Come support the library.  Enjoy a live band, dance team, food, beer, wine and well drinks for two hours.  Children are free of charge.
  • Cost: $20

Harford Dog Park Holiday Party

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 15 from Noon - 2 p.m.
  • Where: Harford Park
  • Why Go: Enjoy food, fun, doggie treats, raffle items, pictures with Santa, and a doggie gift exchange.
  • Cost: Free *bring wrapped gift to participate in gift exchange

It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

  • When: December 13, 14 and 15 at 8 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play is a stage play adaptation of Frank Capra’s film classic. This adaptation is set at a live radio broadcast in the late 1940s, with five actors playing all of the characters all in front of you, the live studio audience!

Annual Commemoration of the March-In of the Continental Army

  • When: December 19 from 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Where:
  • Why Go: On December 19, 1777 General George Washington’s Continental Army “marched in” to Valley Forge to set up winter quarters. This annual event commemorates their arrival and determination to persevere against insurmountable hardship and difficult conditions during their 6-month encampment. Come for a candle-lit guided walk to the Muhlenberg Brigade huts where you’ll encounter a living continental camp. Warm up in the Visitor Center with 18th century music, refreshments, and more.

A Christmas Carol

  • When: Dec. 7 - Dec. 24
  • Where: Hedgerow Theatre 64 Rose Valley Rd, Media
  • Why Go: This year marks Hedgerow's 20th annual presentation of the classic Dickens tale about the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge from miser to man who honors Christmas in his heart, as adapted by  playwright Nagle Jackson. Come find out why this has become a Delaware Valley holiday tradition.
  • Cost: $10 - $32

Under the Mistletoe Holiday Dance

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Wallingford Presbyterian Church, 110 E Brookhaven Rd., Wallingford
  • Why Go: Come dressed in your most festive outfit and get out on the dance floor.  The doors open at 8 p.m. and at 8:15 p.m. you can enjoy complimentary beginner and intermediate salsa lessons.  From 9:15 p.m. to midnight the floor is open to salsa, merengue, bachata and cha cha dancing.  Also - at 10 p.m. there will be performances.  
  • Cost:$12 - early registration by Friday, Dec. 14 or $20 at the door

5th Annual Holiday House Tour

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 16 from 1 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Where: 1240 Center Road, Havertown
  • Why Go: Here is your chance to tour some of Haverford Townships most beautiful homes.  Tickets are available the day of the tour, and can be picked up at the first house on the tour - 1240 Center Road in Havertown or you can pick them up at 226 Wickford Road.
  • Cost: Members: $20; Non-Members: $25

This Wonderful Life

  • When:  Thursday, Nov. 29 - Sunday, Dec. 23
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Running Wednesday's through Sundays from now until Dec. 23, come witness one actor portray George Bailey, Clarence the Angel, Mary, Old Man Potter and the entire population of Bedford Falls, morphing seamlessly from one character to another! Enjoy a “Dinner and a Play” package at The Farmhouse Bistro on evening performances for only $65.
  • Cost: $25 - $35

Tyler Christmas Bird Count

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 15 from 5:30 a.m. - Noon
  • Where:
  • Why Go: Birding enthusiasts are invited to participate in this annual tradition. Come out early and help collect data, search for owls and other nocturnal and dawn birds.  Then break for breakfast at a nearby restaurant (buy your own) and then back to Tyler to search the woodlands and meadows for both common and unusual birds.
  • Cost: Free; pre-registration required
