Firebird Festival Bird Building Starts Saturday

Construction is expected to take as many six weeks.

Volunteers will start the month-and-a-half-long process of building the Phoenix for the 2013 Firebird Festival will start Saturday morning at Friendship Field in Phoenixville.

Now that a location has been established the work to build the bird which will be burned to the ground at the December 14 festival can begin.

According to a post on the Citizens for the Phoenixville Firebird Festival Committees  Facebook page "construction will start October 5th. On the same day, there will be a rugby game going on right next to the building, so that will be interesting. We start at 10am Saturday and Sunday, and then same time every week-end till complete (maybe 1 1/2 month). Please come and help when you can, or bring something to nourish our volunteers."

Previous posts on the site reported that the Borough is providing dirt to fill in under the bird, which is being built along a ridge between an upper and lower field in the park.  The extra dirt will add stability to the bird's foundation.  The bird is built from old wooden shipping pallets.
