Friday marks the 35th anniversary of the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster.
Three Mile Island is considered the worst nuclear disaster in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history, and occurred when two of the three reactors at the Dauphin County plant went into partial nuclear meltdown.
Cleanup efforts stemming from the March 28, 1979, disaster began in August of 1979 and didn't finish until December 1993. Costs associated with the cleanup efforts reached $1 billion.
