Papal Relic to be Venerated at Philadelphia Cathedral

The relic is a vial of blood from the recently canonized Pope Saint John Paul II.

A first-class relic of Pope Saint John Paul II will be venerated this weekend at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said Monday.

The relic, a vial of the recently canonized saint's blood, will be exposed for public veneration between all of the Masses at the Cathedral Basilica.

The relic will be exposed after the following:

  • 5:15 p.m. Saturday Mass in the Basilica;
  • 8 a.m. Sunday Mass in the Cathedral Chapel;
  • 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass in the Basilica;
  • 11 a.m. Sunday Mass in the Basilica;
  • 12:30 p.m. Sunday Spanish Mass in the Cathedral Chapel;
  • 3 p.m. Divine Mercy Chaplet in the Basilica;
  • 6:30 p.m. Sunday Mass in the Basilica.
"At the conclusion of each Mass on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a blessing with the Relic of Pope Saint John Paul II asking for his heavenly intercession," the Archdiocese said in a statement. "Everyone is welcome to the Cathedral Basilica for this weekend of devotion."

The Cathedral Basilica is at 18th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.
