Peace Fest Slated for Reeves Park

One community organization preps to host Peace Fest in Phoenixville Saturday.

A day full of great food, live entertainment, exhibits and lots of fun is on tap for area residents this weekend.

Peace Advocacy Network (PAN) will be hosting Peace Fest this Saturday in Phoenixville. PAN is a grassroots group of volunteers dedicated to creating peace and community spirit.

Phoenixville resident Allison Memmo-Geiger is one of the eight original PAN co-founders. Memmo-Geiger got involved with PAN shortly after college.

"People coming to the event can expect to have fun and learn techniques on creating peace in their own lives," she said. "The techniques learned are things you do everyday without realizing you are actually doing [them].”

Memmo-Geiger’s goal is to help people connect the dots in their lives to make the appropriate changes in their communities for peace.

Last summer, PAN held three block parties in Philadelphia to promote its message of peace. PAN officials said this year’s event will be replacing the block parties.

Memmo-Geiger believes having the fest in Phoenixville will bring out more people because parking in Philadelphia was a major issue.

This year’s event will feature music from several acts, plus plenty of vendors on display and great activities to entertain young and old alike.

The list of some of the corporate donors to Peace Fest includes Giant, Pathmark, Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Wawa, Wegmans and several other companies.

The Peace Fest takes place this Saturday June 18 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at on Starr Street. It is open and free to the public.

Founded in 2010 in Philadelphia, PAN promotes a peaceful existence through veganism, social justice and respect for the Earth's inhabitants and resources. Campaigns include vegan advocacy, humane facts education, horse-drawn carriage ban, as well as human rights issues.
