Phoenixville Spearheading Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort

New Jersey residents are in desperate need following the devastation of many shore communities and are in need our immediate help.

The following release was submitted by Karen Johns.

The process of returning life to normal may take a very long time but together we can help our neighbors by donating items, distributing flyers about this effort, volunteering at the collection center when it opens, and help to make a positive impact on many lives. We have received a list of needed items. Please see below.

Wednesday, November 7 at 7 p.m. we will meet at the Episcopal House, 601 Center Street, Phoenixville, to collect any immediate donations and to organize volunteers to drop flyers, staff a collection center, and deliver supplies to New Jersey. Please make plans to attend!

Manny DeMutis has graciously offered a collection site for donations next door to Generations which is across from Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust at 115 Main Street, Phoenixville. The center will be open later this week. Look for signs for hours of operation.

A bank account, "Phoenixville Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort", has been opened at Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust.

Thank you!

Donation list not limited to these items:

Bottled water, non-perishible snacks, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, all toiletries, feminine sanitary products, shampoo, conditioner, baby products, formula, diapers, wipes, hand sanitizers, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, warm socks, gloves, blankets, pillows, pet supplies, dog and cat food, portable storage bins, batteries, candles, etc.

What about used items like winter coats for the kids?
Kathy Willson November 05, 2012 at 06:05 PM
I have several gently used winter adult coats. Would also be willing to donate some supplies.

Some relief centers will not take clothing but others will. Please come to the meeting Wednesday night as we may be able to find a distribution center for them. Thank you, so much!

I won't be able to come to the meeting, but we will be hitting up stores to get the other supplies. The thought of little kids without winter coats is killing me, so we were going to raid the local Goodwills. I will do some research to find a place that would take them. Thanks for the info!

@ Karen. I cannot attend the meeting on Wed. But I just went through all my baby clothes and I have 2 bins of boys/neutral clothing in mint condition (size NB through 24 months). I have tons of socks, bibs, blankets, burp clothes, pjs, sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, and the list goes on. Can you post the donations centers here that are collecting clothing. I have been googling my brains out looking for places with no such luck. I live in South Pottstown/East Coventry area. Thank you!

CC and M2Ant1, wonderful job!!! Anyone wishing to make a donation is welcome to drop them off if you plan to attend the meeting at the Episcopal House, 601 Center Avenue, Phoenixville. Father Evans has promised to have them transported to the main collection center at 115 Main Street, Phoenixville when it opens later this week. I will post the date and times the center will be open as soon as possible. Please reach out to your family and friends about donations for the relief effort, and please remember that Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust has an account "Phoenixville Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort" and will be accepting monetary donations, also. Thank you, so much!

I can't make it to the meeting -I'd have to walk from downtown Phoenixville in both the dark & cold. I am still interested in helping with this effort. Can you provide some contact info for this relief effort?
Karen November 06, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Vanessa S, please email me at karenj97@comcast.net. I may be able to pick you up.
