Report: Pa. Bridges Most Unsound in Country

Twenty-three percent of the state's bridges are structurally deficient.

Pennsylvania's bridges are troubled, a new report says.

Some 5,218 bridges in Pennsylvania have been deemed deficient by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, a national transportation construction trade group.

There are 22,660 bridges in the commonwealth, the report says, which means that 23 percent of them are deficient. That places Pennsylvania at the bottom, nationwide.

What's more, the structurally deficient bridges are still in use, and those 5,218 bridges are crossed an average of 17,400,000 times a day.

To be considers structurally deficient, a bridge must have one or more of its key elements in poor or worse condition, the report says.

Which bridges do you think are the worst? Do you drive over any that need attention?
