Road Construction Coming to 422 Next Week

Lane closures will make for some slow going

Overnight construction work is going to cause some disruptions on Route 422 next week.

Here are the details as provided to Patch by PennDOT:

Nighttime lane closures are scheduled next week (Oct. 14-17) at the U.S. Route 422-Route 363 (Trooper Road) Interchange in West Norriton and Lower Providence townships, Montgomery County, for roadwork that is part of a major interchange improvement project, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation today announced.

The upcoming work is part of PennDOT’s $16.8 million project to improve travel through the interchange by building two additional ramps to provide moves not currently available and by widening Route 363 (Trooper Road).

On Monday through Thursday (Oct. 14-17) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists will encounter a lane closure on Route 363 (Trooper Road) at the Route 422 Interchange for shoulder paving and the removal of concrete traffic islands.

On Wednesday and Thursday (Oct. 16-17) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., westbound Route 422 will be reduced to one lane at the Route 363 (Trooper Road) Interchange for temporary concrete barrier installation and traffic line painting. The width of Route 422’s westbound travel lanes will be reduced from 12 feet to 11 feet through the interchange once barriers are set in place.

PennDOT’s contractor is starting construction to build an on-ramp from Route 363 (Trooper Road) to westbound Route 422 and an off-ramp from eastbound Route 422 to Route 363 (Trooper Road), and to widen Route 363 (Trooper Road). The project is scheduled to finish in fall 2015.

In addition to adding two new ramps, the improvement plan includes realigning the existing Route 363 (Trooper Road) on-ramp to Route 422 east; building a retaining wall and sound wall along the new eastbound Route 422 off-ramp; repairing the existing Route 422 west off-ramp to Route 363 (Trooper Road); building a retaining wall along the new on-ramp to Route 422 west; widening Route 363 (Trooper Road) through the Audubon Road intersection; widening Audubon Road to include an additional turn and merge lane from Route 363 (Trooper Road); rehabilitating the Route 363 (Trooper Road) bridge over Route 422; building a sidewalk on Route 363 (Trooper Road); and installing new traffic signals and curb ramps.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $16,857,533 contract, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

This interchange improvement is one of four projects that are part of the U.S. 422 Schuylkill River Crossing Complex of projects that are designed to enhance travel along Route 422 between the Route 23 and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges.
