Tornado Watch Until 5 p.m. for Chesco

There is the potential for fast moving, severe conditions Monday afternoon in Chester County and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for Chester County and many surrounding areas. The watch is in effect until 5 p.m. Monday.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected this afternoon into this evening and could produce flooding in poor drainage areas.

Scattered thunderstorms with strong gusty winds are possible.

According to the National Weather Service a tornado watch is issued when severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur. It only means they are possible.

Severe thunderstorms are defined as follows:

1) Winds of 58 miles per hour or higher
