Weekend Planner: Theater, Outdoor Movie, Culture Celebration and More

Forge Theatre kicked off its next half century with the production of a play based on a famous Ken Kesey novel.

As we welcome a touch of fall-like weather this weekend, get out and enjoy a bit of theatrical drama, celebrate a healthy food anniversary, set out on a biker’s adventure, watch a family classic under the stars or learn a bit of history along the Schuylkill Canal.

Where/When: Forge Theatre, 241 First Ave., Phoenixville, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 and 17, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Help kick off the theatre's 50th season with the play “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” written by Dale Wasserman and based on the popular novel by Ken Kesey. The play opened last week to big crowds. This unforgettable story of patients in a mental institution is a powerful exploration of the beauty—and the danger—of being original. Directed by Wendy Mirto. Not suitable for children under age 18. The theater requests that you park in the lot at Washington and Main.

Why Go: Celebrate Kimberton Whole Foods’ 25th anniversary with a delicious barbecue for omnivores and vegetarians/vegans alike, live music, a sampling tent, kids' activities, birthday cake and much more.

Where/When: Valley Forge Harley, 1217 Trooper Road, Trooper, Sept. 17, 9 a.m.

Why Go: Help support the building of permanent housing for disadvantaged American Veterans while enjoying a day of motorcycle riding. Start at one of seven Greater Philadelphia Harley Davidson locations and end with music and food on Bridge Street in Phoenixville. Participating dealerships include Valley Forge Harley, Brian's Harley, Chesapeake Harley, Classic Harley, Freedom Cycle, Smaltz's Harley and White's Harley.

The event will be held rain or shine. The 100 and 200 blocks of Bridge Street will be closed for the event.

Cost: Riders $20, Passengers $10

Why Go: Throw some chairs and blankets into the car and bring the family out to enjoy the movie “Toy Story 3” under the stars. Proceeds from the sale of popcorn, snacks and drinks go to help pay for the PYBRL 2012 Cooperstown team’s trip. This event is sponsored by Exelon Power.

Celebration of Cultures

Where/When: , Main Street at Second Avenue, Phoenixville, Saturday, Sept. 17, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. 

Why Go: According to the event page, "This event will feature food, informational tables and entertainment from some of the many diverse cultures in the Phoenixville area. You may even consider adding a table for your organization to the event."
