Artists Honored at Phoenix Village

An awards ceremony was held Sunday, and local businesses donated prizes.

This month the Phoenix Village Art Center is exhibiting its members’ art work, and on Sunday, an award ceremony granted prizes to six artists voted best in show.  

A People's Choice Award was chosen by public voting, and this year’s winner received $50. A Best in Show Award was chosen by the Phoenix Village Art Center’s Gallery Committee, which awards the winner with a one-person show lasting one month next year.

All other prizes awarded were gift certificates donated by the following local businesses: Columbia Bar and Grille; Colonial Theatre; Franklin Goodkin, PhD; First Step Fitness; Jaworski’s Music Store; Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant; Steel City Coffeehouse; Philly Pretzel Factory; Strawberry Fields; Artisans Gallery and Café; Xpress Pizza and Grill; and Staples.

Jack Hanson for best 3D Sculpture/Craft for his work “Redwood Burl Bowl,” redwood medium.

Kristina Davis for best 2D Graphic, “Maine Line,” cyanotype medium.

Molly Light for best Watercolor titled “Water Dreams.”

Steven Shank for best Acrylic Painting, “A New Direction.”

Sharon Lee Wack for Best Oil Painting for her work “Ballad of Black and Gold.”

Michael Diven for Best in Show for Retinal Dust (for Pablo Neruda), acrylic/pastel medium.

Frank Giammatteo won the Peoples’ Choice for a piece titled “Study of Birds, First Edition,” mixed media.

There was a nice turnout for the gala award ceremony on Sunday. A good time was had by all.

The show will be up for this entire month, wrapping up May 30. Please come by and enjoy for yourself a superb show of local talent.
