Five Things to Know About Blobfest 2011

You don't have to go far for this festival that attracts B-movie fans from all over.

In its 12th year, Blobfest hits Bridge Street again this weekend.

The festival, which celebrates the movie “The Blob,” attracts visitors from all over the country to the borough. Friday features the famous re-enactment of the “running out” scene at . Saturday’s street fair invites crowds to visit vendors, watch screenings of “The Blob,” participate in a tinfoil hat contest run by and take part in a fire extinguisher parade, among other things.

Here’s a list of five things to know when that ooey, gooey creature is celebrated this weekend:

Run Out Sold Out: In the movie “The Blob,” crowds flee The Colonial Theatre, located in the 200 block of Bridge Street. That famous scene is one of the most popular parts of Blobfest.

Tickets went on sale and quickly sold out. If you want to check out the running out, however, you can stop by Blobfest on Friday night at 9 p.m.

Check Out the Film Sunday: Are you sheepish to admit you’ve never seen “The Blob”? Sunday might be your chance, if you’re looking to avoid huge crowds.

While the film will also be screened numerous times on Saturday, you can also catch it on Sun., July 10 at 2 p.m. at the Colonial.

Blob Ball in its Fourth Year Moves to P.J. Ryan’s: After The Run Out on Friday, P.J. Ryan’s Underground will play host to Blob Ball 4, a retro, rockabilly celebration of all things Blob.

There will be prizes, music by The Rivers Rockabilly Trio and 15 percent of the proceeds go to The Colonial Theatre. Tickets are $10, and doors open at 8:30 p.m.

Has Blobs: That’s right. The coffee shop on Bridge Street across from the Colonial has concoctions of white chocolate, dark chocolate, summer berry filling, Contreau mousse and sponge cake to fulfill your Blob cravings.

Stop in Artisan’s to pick one up for $3.75. The dessert's tagline, fittingly, is "Eat it before it eats you."

A.V. Club Visits Phoenixville: The Onion’s A.V. Club recently visited The Colonial Theatre to take a peek at where some of The Blob was filmed. The ensuing article included this quote: “The Philadelphia Museum Of Art has its statue, The Colonial Theatre has its bucket o’ goo.”
