Attracting Abundance

Autumn is a perfect time to set intentions to attract abundance into your life. Review some of the basics to the law of attraction from the Huna Hawaiian perspective.

In this economy I'm sure we all would like to attract abundance.   The perfect time to do this is during harvest months.  Come try an abundance attracting mediation at our fundraiser out in St Peters Village during this Autumnal Equinox, September 22, 2012 10am-12.  You can get more information about the event at the events tab on our website, but today I want to share with you more about the law of attraction.

Many of you may have heard of this law.   It basically goes that you thought up everything in your life- thoughts attract things and situations.   This law is the basis of the popular book and movie 'The Secret' which is based on the Hawaiian Huna belief system.  The word Huna means secret.   The problem is the law has been chopped out of the Huna system without the other rules so it gets interpreted as whatever you wish for you get.

I don't know about you, but I still haven't won the lottery!   While mentoring with Native Americans in Arizona I was staying with a woman who applied the law by taping paper copies of million dollar bills to various places within the house.   Every time she passed one of the signs she would wish to win the lottery.  While the rest of the time she complains about never winning anything in life.

Huna doesn't work that way.  You are just setting yourself up for disappointment.   So lets go over some of the basics one needs to attract abundance.

1) Attitude- You must have a positive attitude.   Walking around with a victim attitude is a sure way to never attract anything.  Everything in life has good and bad aspects to it.  Are you looking at the good aspects or the bad ones?  The brain neurotransmitters reinforce whatever you are experiencing.  So if you are looking at the bad your brain chemistry actually shifts to keep looking at the bad.  The only way to correct it is to find the good in things and focus on that aspect.

2) Being realistic.  My friend may have attracted a million dollars if she believed it was a realistic goal.  Inside her heart of hearts she was saying I want a million but that will never happen.   Set a site which you believe can happen.  One can not change the laws of physics so wishing for it is unrealistic.  But I know a woman who prayed for her future husband to be 6'4".  He was only 6'2" until two years before they met he grew two more inches when he was in his early thirties.  While you may not be able to change the sky to your favorite color, you may be able to have a beautiful weather day for your outdoor event.

Here we come to a paradox.  You want to be specific but you also want to leave wiggle room.   How much easier would it have been if the woman didn't put the 6'4" requirement into her request?  Apparently she was already destined to marry this particular man at least two years before they met.   I find myself going specific and dreaming in detail, but my intentions as I set them, I leave vague like 'A good hearted man who is a perfect mate who really knows how to love me.'

3) Believe it.  This is the hardest part.  You must believe that is has already happened in the future.  I used this to win a trip.  When I bought the raffle ticket I kept going to the folks saying when are you pulling my ticket?  Even up to the moment of the draw.  I was chatting with a gal and said 'wait, they are about to pick my ticket.'  I was saying it out of fun and was completely wordless when they actually did pull it but I realized later that I was using the law of attraction.  I even was planning what I was going to pack and felt myself enjoying the trip in my daydreams as part of believing it.  Ironically I didn't realize I employed the law until after it came to me.

The more you can see yourself enjoying whatever it is you are attempting to attract as if you already have it will promote attraction.

Also there is an element of play and detachment needed in this belief.   We are told to have faith like a child.  A typical child lives in the moment and doesn't question where his next meal is coming from.  He just knows someone will care for him and provide.  In the meantime he joyfully goes on playing with is toys, just being the child.

4) Gratitude - This is part of setting the intention and seems paradoxical since I just told you to live in the moment like a child.  In this step you have to believe it already happened in the future.

My Kahuna mentor on Hawaii taught me an easy way to do this.   Get a thank you note and write a thank you to God for what he has given you, as if you already received what you are trying to attract.   You can write it as simple as 'Thank you for the trip.' or you can write it more complex like 'Thank you for the trip. I had such a wonderful time with my friend.  We swam in the surf, got massages and eat a bounty of food.   I was so relaxed and my favorite part was watching the wild horses, they truly are curious creatures.'

This will feel odd since you will want to write it as a request or something in the future like 'Thank you for the trip you are going to give me.'

5) Action- To help with this, know one of the metaphysical laws written in the Bible. 'Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find ; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. What man among you who when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone?' (Matthew 7:7-9 NAS) The point here is that God (especially in His aspect of our Father) wants to provide, but we can not just sit in a wishful state.  This is the case of my girlfriend who is going to win her million dollars.   She wished for it several times throughout the day but she never bought a lottery ticket.  This does not say that one will not blow in her window someday.

Some things like husband requests you want to just put out to the universe and see how things are answered.  But other things like playing in the olympics, you will need to set action plans, do the training and go a little beyond.

6) Our greatest good...this brings us to the frequency of request.  I don't have a real answer for you here.   Part of setting the intention is believing it happened, so the request should only need to be once.   But we know that God answers prayers in Yes, No and Wait.  These are all answers for our higher purpose.   I am very glad at some of the No's He has given me over the years now that I look back.  I think I was really stupid to even ask and God knew better.   But we see evidence in the old testament if we keep asking God often bends to our request but still works his ultimate purpose.  And these do set our karma in this life.

Some believe we should continue to ask daily, but again this maybe a form an unbelief as if God hasn't heard the first request.  Asking once tends to work better for me than asking multiple times, but this is my preference.   I think of a child asking 'are we there yet?' on a long ride.  Maybe once or twice is nice, but every five minutes is annoying.  Again, just my personal belief.

Autumn is the time for abundance and thanksgiving.  So this year consider what you would like to attract into your life. Life is made of many paradoxes and Huna takes many of these into account.  Learning Huna really takes a life time to understand some of those paradoxes an how they interact.  But I hope this short blog helps you understand some of them and ultimately remember that the greatest good is what you really want if you want an abundant life.
