Acme Grocery Chain Sold

The brand has a strong presence in the area, but its future is uncertain.

Acme Markets is among several chains the Supervalu company has sold to investment consortium Cerberus Capital Management, Supervalu announced Thursday.

There was no announcement from Supervalu or Cerberus about how the sale will affect the future of the grocery stores.

Acme has a location at 785 Starr Street in Phoenixville.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in July that moves by Supervalu executives seemed to indicate they were looking for buyers for Acme and their other grocery "banners".

Don't care either . I don't shop there.because the prices are WAY too high ! Giants prices ate a lot cheaper and they run better sales more often . The only thing I do go there for are meats , which.are better.than giants even though the price is outrageous .

Acme death spiral began when Albertsons bought them in 1999-----it was just a matter of time when , not if they would die. Arrogant, out of date manegement from Boise believed they had all the answers. At the time they thought they were successfull and were not. Sadly, the very good people in the in the Acme cooperate offices, stores and distribution centers are the ones that suffer as a result....even the union people that were at the mercy of thier union bosses that made the store prices cecome totally out of line with the competition. Sad, very sad.
