Phoenixville Stores Spared from Initial List of Sears/Kmart Closures

Two stores in the region—including the one at the Coventry Mall—made the first closing list.

Both the Kmart and Sears Hardware stores in Phoenixville are safe from the first part of a list of closures by Sears Holdings Corporation.

Due to dismal numbers this quarter, the corporation announced plans to shutter 100 to 120 stores. That announcement was made on Tuesday, and a list of 79 stores to close was released Thursday.

"This list represents 79 of the 100 to 120 store closings that were announced in the Dec. 27 ... Sears Holdings press release. Additional updates will be posted to www.searsmedia.com as they become available," the document states. "Employment varies by store and format and at this time we cannot provide the total number of impacted associates."
