Phoenixville True Value, Hog Island Steaks Welcomed to Town

Two new businesses opened up in the Acme shopping center on Starr Street.

Who needs a ribbon and scissors when you've got a chain and a bolt cutter?

On Friday, the Phoenixville Regional Chamber of Commerce formally welcomed two new businesses to the area. Phoenixville True Value and Hog Island Steaks, both located in the shopping center on Starr Street anchored by Acme, opened their doors recently.

After the chain was (somewhat) handily snipped, a customer who came out to watch the event at True Value's grand opening stopped a representative clad in a True Value shirt.

"It's good to have a hardware store that's got everything," the customer told the representative.

While corporate representatives of the True Value stores were on hand, the store is franchised. Owner Rich Malasics cut the chain at the business Friday, and thanked everyone for supporting the new store.

A few doors down, Hog Island joins the restaurant community in Phoenixville. Owner Michael Diamantopoulos wielded the novelty scissors Friday, while his mom did the official cutting with a pair of real snippers craftily hidden behind the big scissors.

Hog Island features a full menu of sandwiches, fries and more, but they're most known for their cheesesteaks, made with fresh ribeye steak cut daily on site.

Both businesses are located in the 700 block of Starr Street in Phoenixville.
