Red Fox Brings Phoenixville Favorites to Your Door

This delivery service adds a new aspect to participating area restaurants.

It's a rainy day out in Royersford and you're really craving some Evil Jungle Princess from Thai L'Elephant. You could drive over, but you know how traffic gets on Bridge Street, especially in the rain. If they only delivered ...

Well, the folks at Thai L'Elephant might not be strapping up the hot bag to come to your home, but they've found a solution to your craving: Red Fox Delivery.

Red Fox Delivery, owned and operated by Robert Gauger, originally from Gilbertsville, is coming to a restaurant near you to help drive business in the area by offering a delivery service for restaurants that don't have their own.

Founded on Oct. 10, Gauger said he had the idea for a while, dating back to his college days at Temple University. Already being familiar with the area, he knew towns like Royersford, Phoenixville and Collegeville would be ideal for a service like this.

"It was just a great location," he said. "As the idea grew, I saw a lot of solid restaurants and great businesses to service with this service. There's a lot of potential areas as well."

Currently, Red Fox Delivery has eight restaurants on board, some even offering catering deliveries too. They are as follows:

  • , Limerick (W. Ridge Pike location)
  • , Phoenixville
  • French Quarter Bistro, Royersford
  • , Phoenixville
  • Thai L'Elephant, Phoenixville
  • Tortuga's Mexican Eatery, Collegeville

Gauger said he'd like to get 20 businesses on board by the end of April. The service also prints a menu guide, which includes menus from the restaurants on board. That gets mailed out every six months and is sent to roughly 12-15,000 mailing addresses in the area. While Gauger has stayed mainly local, he said it wouldn't hurt to have some national chains, as well.

"We would definitely like to sign a national chain. It's just more challenging to do so, because you have to deal with corporate," he said. "It's something we've looked into a little bit and have actually talked to some of them. We just haven't done anything with them yet."

On the business side, Red Fox offers quick delivery for its clients, as well as several advertising and marketing options, including the menu guide. Gauger, who said there's about four people involved in his operation on the business end, said he sets up contracts with the restaurants.

"The idea is it's not just providing a delivery service for the restaurant, but we do marketing for them as well," he explained. "We foot the cost of the menu guides. We put our restaurants' menu on the guide and mail that out. That's our primary advertising tool. We do other things. We approach the restaurants and set up and deal with them. We market for them and try to provide extra sales through our delivery service."

So how does it work for a regular customer? Well, according to the company's website, it's as simple as clicking the Restaurants tab at the top of the page, viewing the menu of your choice and ordering your food. The food arrives within 45 to 60 minutes of the order.

Red Fox Delivery is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As for the name, Gauger said it was simply an availability issue for the website, as well as something people could remember. Later, he thought about a fox and its comparison to his business.

"It kind of made sense," he said. "Foxes are quick and swift. They move quickly. That's the idea behind it. We'll get the food to you fast, while it's hot."

Gauger's goal is to be doing 100 orders every day. He has toyed with the idea of expanding. Overall, he said it's easy once the name is established and credibility is earned.

"I always hoped to grow the idea here and expand it," Gauger concluded. "That's the great thing about it. Once you get this going, it's really not that challenging to expand it to the next city. Open up a small office there and keep going. Once you have that name and can be respected by the restaurants and show you are helping increase sales for the restaurants, then it's easy to keep going and expanding from the central location."
