Tree-mendous Tradition

Is this your Christmas Tree Weekend or do you wait until closer to the big day?

With Thanksgiving coming as late as possible in November this year, holiday merchants and Christmas tree stands are scrambling to get your business before it's too late.

When Do You Buy Your Christmas Tree?

At Petrucci's Ic Cream on Nutt Road in Phoenixville, the ice cream is gone for the winter season but the trees are back.  Just as the store has done for 15 years, Petrucci's is geared up for a big weekend, with fresh cut trees from a tree farm in nearby Bloomsburg, PA.  The trees went on sale the weekend after Thanksgiving but with each passing day, the demand for the Douglas and Frazier Fir trees grows.

Petrucci's will sell and wrap up your tree to take home on the spot, or you can arrange for delivery in the 19460 zip code for an additional fee. (They will deliver further out but there is an added fee for the added miles). Trees run an average 6-8 feet and prices are marked on tags right on the trees. There are also shorter trees and trees up to about 10 feet available,

Hours are Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.. Petrucci's business partner Bob Littlewood says weekends are the busiest time for the tree sales and they have added extra hours for Friday and Saturday from 10a.m.-10 p.m..   Famous Dr. Seuss character The Grinch will also being making weekend appearances.

There are several more tree stands now up and running, including one at the Freedoms Foundation on Route 23 in Schuylkill Township that sells live trees which are sold in burlap bulbs filled with dirt that can be planted before or after Christmas.
