Career Seekers Workshop Coming to Phoenixville

If you're looking for a job, this workshop can help.

You’ve been meaning to spruce up your résumé. You’d like to find some resources to help you score a new job, but when you search online you get overwhelmed. And you know you’ll clam up when you finally land an interview.

Taken separately, tackling those issues might take days or even weeks to overcome and accomplish, especially if you are unsure of where to turn for help.

State Rep. Warren Kampf (R-157), hopes an upcoming workshop will help constituents take on those problems.

Kampf will host a Career Seekers Workshop on Thurs., April 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at .

“This is an opportunity to maybe work on a few of those things for a couple of hours,” Kampf said.

The free event will feature three presentations followed by three breakout sessions. Don’t expect a job fair—this event will take a look at overall job hunting strategies rather than individual companies that are hiring.

“It’s really focused on equipping and bringing folks up to speed so they can go out into the job sector and have a leg up,” Kampf said.

A headhunter will be on hand to talk about using those types of firms, an employer will talk about what she’s looking for in candidates and skills-based job hunting will be examined, among other topics. The event will also help connect job seekers with resources that can help them on the way.

While unemployment numbers are very slowly creeping down in Pennsylvania, Kampf said the economic downturn isn’t over yet. He hopes the workshop will provide a service to those seeking work or those looking for a better opportunity.

“Talking to so many people as I went door to door and campaigned, we ran into many people who were unemployed and many who were underemployed,” Kampf said.

He hopes the event will attract those in need of help throughout his district, rather than just in Phoenixville. Other workshops will be held in the summer and fall, but those will likely have a different theme.

The response to the workshop has been pretty good so far, Kampf said, and his staff has been working to get the word out about the event throughout the district.

“I’m thinking we will have a very good turnout,” Kampf said.

Those planning to attend should register by Thurs., April 21. You can register by calling 610-251-2876 or e-mailing DO157@pahouse.gov. For more information on the workshop, visit State Rep. Warren Kampf's website.
