Cheap Trips: Art, Golf, Wheels and the Three Stooges

Here are four places to visit on less than one tank of gas.

Each week Patch suggests a few interesting destinations you can get to on one tank of gas, or less, round-trip. This week's ideas are Main Line Art Center in Haverford, Waltz Golf Farm in Limerick, the Stoogeum in Ambler and the American on Wheels Museum in Allentown.

Main Line Art Center

Summary: Founded in 1937, the Main Line Art Center is a nonprofit community art center located on Panmure Road in Haverford. Throughout the year, the Main Line Art Center offers art classes and workshops and even exhibitions of regional artists and educational lectures to art lovers everywhere.

Waltz Golf Farm

Summary: Fun for the entire family has been the motto at Waltz Golf Farm since 1964. The facilities include a batting cage, two miniature golf courses, a driving range and both 18- and nine-hole golf courses. And when you are finished with the activities, there’s a dining area that serves fast food and dessert, which includes 26 flavors of soft ice cream.

The Stoogeum

Summary: It's been almost four decades since Moe Howard, the last surviving original member of the Three Stooges, passed into history, but fond memories of the 20th century's most famous slapstick act live on. Fans in our area enjoy free access to a big chunk of their material legacy through Ambler's "Stoogeum," a treasure trove of almost 100,000 pieces of Three Stooges memorabilia operated by Gary Lassin, whose wife is part of original Stooge, Larry Fine's, family. The museum has won plaudits from the New York Times, Philadelphia Magazine and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Summary: America on Wheels showcases everything on wheels from tricycles to racing lawn mowers, sports cars to race cars, antique cars to Mack trucks. The main floor features the museum's permanent exhibit. The second floor gallery hosts an exhibit that changes every six months. The museum includes an orientation theater, interactive displays and a gift shop. All exhibits are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Free parking lot.
