Doggone, Three of You Had it RIght

Three readers noted the correct location of the historical photo.

Three of you had the correct answer to last week's Phoenixville photo challenge presented by .

This one was particularly great because many of you shared memories of the spot, which was the between Washington Avenue and Morgan Street.

Barbara Hoffman, who had the correct answer first, recalled going there on Friday nights for dinner. Readers also recalled a large dog statue out front. See the photo of the dog to find out more about where it ended up.

Barbara Hoffman, George Mansur and Kate Fullam had the correct answer. Peter C. Brown also gets credit for insight on the dog statue.

Here's the good word from the historical society:

"Located on Main Street between Washington Avenue and Morgan Street, this building was built as a private residence in the 1860s. The building had a succession of residential owners then was sold to the Veterans of the Civil War, known as the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic). In 1926 it was sold to the American Legion to become the American Legion Hall, as shown in this photograph. The building was eventually razed and the property is now the parking lot of the Presbyterian Church."

Stay tuned for next week when we'll have a spanking new (old) photo up for you to guess.
