Felix the Cat Still Has Some Tricks

Check out this week's rescue pet.

Felix is a one very lucky cat. He was rescued by firemen from a house fire that sadly caused the demise of his life-long friend and owner. His luck held when he was connected to Cat Angel Network and he’s now comfortable in a short-term foster home. But Felix still dreams of the day when he has a Forever Home.

At 10 years old, Felix still has many years of life ahead of him. Unfortunately, it seems not everyone realizes this about cats that are no longer kittens.

Says Laura Schwartz of Cat Angel Network, “A few years ago, just one day before a scheduled euthanization, we took in a foster cat who was 20 years old. No other rescue was willing to take her because of her advanced age.  But she lived a happy and healthy two extra years and, when she passed—peacefully and in her sleep—it was a sad time for us, indeed. However, she brought us joy every single day of those two years and our lives were enriched by knowing her.”

Cat Angel Network is hoping that someone else can see beyond age and come to love Felix for the delightful gentleman that he is. His foster mother would love to keep him but, with seven cats, is unable to permanently add to her numbers.

Felix doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s a quiet and loving boy and purrs up a storm when he’s happy, which is most of the time. He loves to have his head petted and enjoys being brushed. Up to date on all required vaccinations, Felix is neutered and tested negative for both FIV and FeLV.

Because of the trauma Felix experienced, loud noises can startle him and strangers may make him hide until he’s sure he’s safe. He hasn’t been around other cats but his laid-back temperament makes us feel he’ll do just fine with other older, quiet kitties. A peaceful home with no young children would probably be best for this gentle cat, as would a very special, cat-savvy family who would help Felix continue to blossom.

It seems no coincidence that Felix is Phoenixville Patch’s Pet of the Week at Easter-time, a season of rebirth. The only question to be asked is: Are you the one who will offer Felix a second chance at life?
