Flood Warning Continues Through Late Afternoon Wednesday

The French Creek may flood during this stormy weather.

Update at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesday 

After more than two inches of rain fell in the Phoenixville area, the flood warning has been extended through 5:45 p.m. today. 

As of 11:45 a.m., the National Weather Service reported that water levels on the French Creek and other creeks in the area remain high.

Update at 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday 

A prior flood warning has been extended until 11:45 a.m. The flood warning area includes Chester and Montgomery counties. Another one to two inches of rain may fall Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, "At 3:41 a.m. areas that received heavy rain Tuessday afternoon and night were being affected by reneewed heavy rain early this morning ... Morning commuters will find severely degraded travel." 

An accident at 4:55 a.m. closed a portion of Route 422 just west of the exit for Route 23/Valley Forge. The road reopened but with a lane restriction.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for northeastern Chester County. 

Flooding is expected or already occurring along the French Creek, as well as the Perkiomen Creek and Valley Creek in the Phoenixville area. An inch to an inch and a half of rain has already fallen in the area, according to the flood warning

With another one to one and a half inches of rain possible during the overnight hours, more minor flooding is expected.  

"As a result, additional flooding is anticipated," the warning states. "Minor flooding is expected on a number of small streams and creeks including [the] Manatawny Creek, Perkiomen Creek, French Creek and Valley Creek. A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. 

The flood warning is in effect until 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is predicting much rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. A flash flood watch has been issued for the entire region:

Rain will be heavy at times tonight and early Wednesday morning as the system wraps up and moves to our northeast.

According to the NWS statement, 1 to 3 inches will fall by Wednesday afternoon, with more in some isolated areas.

A flash flood watch can lead to a flash flood warning, which describes a dangerous situation. To view current conditions, visit the Phoenixville forecast at nws.gov.

A flood advisory is also in effect for the Phoenixville area. 

"Additional rainfall overnight should result in more roadway and poor drainage area flooding," according to the advisory.
