Flash Flood Watch in Effect, Power Knocked Out in Some Parts of the Area

Here's something different: thunderstorms.

After severe storms blew through the area today, a flash flood watch is in effect for Chester and Delaware Counties.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been extended to 9 p.m. Sunday.

According to PECO, up to 3,500 customers in Chester County and more than 3,500 in Montgomery County are without power. There were reports of an outage at Phoenixville Hospital, and ambulances were standing by.

Regarding the violent storm that passed through the area on Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service cautioned:

"THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM. IF YOU ARE IN ITS PATH...PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR DAMAGING WINDS...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL...AND DEADLY CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING. PEOPLE OUTSIDE SHOULD MOVE TO A SHELTER... PREFERABLY INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING BUT AWAY FROM WINDOWS."

Flash Flood Watch into late Sunday night

A statement from the NWS says rains over the past week have saturated the ground and "downpours can be expected from thunderstorms into the night. This may lead to flash flooding.
