Forecast: Hot, Hot, Hot

An excessive heat watch is in effect for the region.

It’s only the beginning of June, but the temperatures will already near triple digits, according to forecasts.

An excessive heat watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. Temperatures are expected to swell into the mid-90s, and the air will be humid.

Heat index values are expected to be between 95 and 100 on Wednesday and closer to 100 on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“The record for Thursday is 98 and we're predicting 96 in our forecast for Thursday,” wrote Royersford’s Tom Thunstrom of PhillyWeather.net. “Whether it hits or not is not important. The combination of heat and dewpoints in the 60s will bring heat index values close to 100 to the region, which is rather nasty regardless of whether the surface temperature is 95, 96, or 98, as it's gonna be hot.”

The excessive heat watch, issued by the National Weather Service, advises staying inside in the air conditioning and checking on the elderly and sick as well as being extra cautious with pets.

The watch also notes that people should:

-Wear loose fitting and lightweight clothes

-Drink plenty of water

-Schedule frequent breaks that involve heading into an air-conditioned environment

-Know the signs of heat exhaustion
