Great Escape: Open Mic Nights in Phoenixville

Take the stage at your nearby bar for a night of fun.

Though this may not be a great escape for everyone, getting out of the house on a weeknight with a guitar and some friends can be just what some need to unwind from the daily grind.

Open mics are always an adventure, with different faces, acts and songs every night. And the Phoenixville area is a veritable hub of bars and other venues looking to open their doors to the singers, poets and comedians in need of a stage. Here are just a few of the many places nearby that hold open mics:

Steel City Coffeehouse

This Bridge Street coffee shop has a plethora of open mic choices. The first Tuesday of the month, stop in for a free Mad Poet’s Society open mic. Sign ups start at 6:30 p.m.

For a more musical open mic, Steel City also has acoustic open mic nights filling out the rest of the Tuesdays. This is more laid-back, according to the Steel City Web site. Sign up at 6:30 p.m.

Finally, there’s the regular open mic with a $3 cover on Thursdays. The open mic runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Sunstone Studios/Lighthouse Lounge

Head here on Wednesday evenings and you’ll find an open mic and open jam session. It’s $3 and BYOB. The open mic begins at 8 p.m.

The Epicurean Restaurant and Bar

Each Wednesday, the Epicurean hosts an open mic beginning at 9 p.m. Head out to the Village at Eland for some Wednesday night fun.

Pickering Creek Inn

This Bridge Street bar and restaurant will host an open jam session with Nick Walling on March 27.
