Local Man Needs a New Van

An MS-afflicted Phoenixville resident is competing in a "local heroes" contest.

Fedor Alexander Brejcha was diagnosed with Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1980. Five years later, the disease had rendered him paraplegic.

The Phoenixville resident, now wheelchair bound, has held night-shift work since, but the converted van that has allowed him to get to and fro his job—his lifeline—has over 160,000 miles on it and is on its last legs. And replacing it could cost up to $40,000.

Sponsored by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), the contest looks to honor those like Brejcha who are leading productive lives in the face of mobility challenges. Voting, which is open to the public, closes on May 13, and the three winners who are named will each be awarded a wheelchair accessible van.

Voters can log onto the website here to select the local hero whose story they’re most moved by, or click here to cast a vote for Brejcha.
