Purple Goes Pink for October

The Phantoms will don pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness.

There will be another foe that will be the focus of both squads on Thursday night as the Phoenixville Phantoms football team will be kicking off a month-long series of Play for the Cure games to be played by teams in the Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC-10).

The Phantoms will be wearing pink jerseys to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The parents committee is asking Phantom fans to also wear pink that night to demonstrate their support for the project.

Information will be provided on the fundraising efforts to support cancer research and patient assistance in a subsequent communication.

Phoenixville head football coach Bill Furlong proposed the initial idea. In addition to Thursday night’s game, Upper Perkiomen (Oct. 7), Methacton, Perkiomen Valley  (Oct. 28) and Pottsgrove (Oct. 21) will be holding Play for the Cure games in the month in which the NFL has targeted as their month to raise awareness.

The jerseys were donated by Fesnak and Associates LLP. The funds raised will be distributed by two local organizations, which help to prevent and treat this disease. They are the Community Mammogram Program (providing no-cost mammograms) and Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center’s Patient Assistance Fund (providing patients with assistance for expenses not covered by insurance).

The Play for the Cure game kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6. Come out at 6:45 p.m. for the dedication ceremony for Washington Field and the track. The Phantoms will on the turf.
