Rescue Pet of the Week: A Truly Great Dane

Meet Chi Chi, an energetic and playful Great Dane mix who's being fostered in Phoenixville.

This week is a pretty big week for the Phoenixville Area Rescue Pet of the Week. First off, we're very happy to say we've heard of three adoptions so far. And secondly, our featured pet this week is also pretty big herself.

Foster mom Kathy Wilson writes:

"Chi Chi is a very sweet, happy, playful 3-year-old merle Great Dane/Lab mix or Dane/Catahoula mix. She is a great size at just 95 pounds.

"Chi Chi gets along with almost every dog she's met, great and small, as well as cats. She loves to zoom around the yard, dodging trees and people and leaping over other dogs in her path! Chi Chi will chase a thrown toy or ball and is learning that if she brings it back, she can chase it again!

"Chi Chi knows all of her basic commands and will even sit and wait for her food bowl to be placed in her food stand. She is crate-trained and is content to be in her crate when no one is home with her. Besides zooming around the yard, Chi Chi's next favorite activity is sitting next to you to be petted, even when you are standing outside. She does tend to give you a big ole paw in case you didn't notice her sitting there waiting!

"Chi Chi loves playing tug of war with anyone who is willing. She will even take the rope in her mouth and walk over to another dog and push the rope into the other dog’s face trying to initiate play. If it doesn’t work, she just has fun running around with the rope in her mouth.

"She is a very happy gal who seems to be able to make the best of whatever is going on around her at the time.

"Chi Chi would do best in a home with one other doggy companion who is also playful. As an only dog Chi Chi will be an affectionate girl who bonds closely with her special person.

"Since she loves to run and play, she would need an active owner who will give her the fun and exercise she needs. A fenced yard is preferred for this active gal so she can safely run and play.

"Chi Chi cannot be crated all day, so she will need to live in a home where someone is home a lot during the day. She takes a little bit to warm up to males but with patience and gentleness, she comes around!

"Chi Chi loved all of the snow we had this winter! She grabs a mouthful of snow, jumps up in the air, lands, takes off running and then starts the whole sequence over again. Along the way, she tries to involve the other dogs at the foster home in her fun.

"She also continues to help me with the laundry (in her own way). She sticks her head into the dryer as I fold clothes and she’ll quietly pick an item of interest. Then I have to go looking because I did not see her take anything. One of my gloves was sticking out of the snow one time.

"The foster mom was cleaning the ears of the other foster dog and Chi Chi decided to help out by quietly removing the bag of cotton balls and taking the bag to her crate for safekeeping!

"Chi Chi’s best friend in foster care has been an English Bulldog/Boxer mix who is being adopted this weekend. Chi Chi will miss her terribly. Can you fill the void in Chi Chi’s life by giving her a new home? She is being fostered in Phoenixville and her fee is $325.

"Chi Chi is almost completely housebroken, spayed and up to date on all vaccinations."
