Tea Partiers Rally in Downtown Phoenixville for Tax Day

A group of approximately 150 Valley Forge Patriots showed up on Bridge Street Friday.

For the third consecutive year, members of the Valley Forge Patriots gathered in downtown Phoenixville on tax day, April 15.

Bearing signs and flags, the group began assembling around 5 p.m. Though there was a bit of shouting from some not with the Tea Party group, those rallying stayed peaceful and encouraged passersby to honk or wave.

"My sign says it all," said Mark Driver, holding up a sign reading "We're Taxed Too Much."

Saying that we're taxed enough, Driver said, means that it's sufficient, but it's beyond that. Driver also said the group supports a smaller government.

"We cross all party lines—Democrats, Republicans, Independents," Driver said.

Jim Schneller of Wayne said he heard lots of honking and saw a lot of thumbs up as the rally went on at Bridge and Main streets.

"It's important that int his town ... we have this kind of a display of patriotism," Schneller said.

He explained that he came out because he's not happy with how the government is working.

"We're very disappointed about the fact that the government isn't listening to anyone," Schneller said.

For Steve Piotrowski, the Tea Party movement means a show of protest against a large national debt.

"I believe that you can't spend your way out of debt," Piotrowski said. "I don't look at it as a Republican or Democrat thing. I look at it as an American thing."
